OpenEdge™ DataServers

OpenEdge DataServers enable superior application flexibility through transparent access to virtually any data source.

In our connected and collaborative business world, it is not unusual for a company to find itself having to deal with a variety of data sources. OpenEdge DataServers provide transparent access from applications written in the Progress 4GL to a wide range of heterogeneous, non-Progress data sources. OpenEdge DataServers provide native access to Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. OpenEdge DataServers also offer transparent access to a wide range of ODBC compliant data sources, including IBM DB2, IBM Informix OnLine, and Sybase. The same basic application logic can access and write data from and to all of these data sources, considerably extending the reach of Progress 4GL application. The ability to work with data from different sources increases an organization's ability to reach new customers or work with new partners more effectively.

There are three product editions pf the OpenEdge DataServer for accessing industry-wide data sources.

  • OpenEdge DataServer for Microsoft SQL Server provides native access to Microsoft SQL Server v7 and 2000.
  • OpenEdge DataServer for Oracle provides native access to Oracle 8i and 9i.
  • OpenEdge DataServer for ODBC provides transparent access to ODBC level 2-compliant data sources, including DB2/400.
